Hello!

Hello! I've been away from here for what seems like forever.
These have been difficult times for me but I'm back and looking forward,
the sun is shining and the creative juices are flowing!

So here goes ... While I've been absent I've been thinking about some new downloadable workshops to add to my Fairy Shoes patterns.
I'm working on some embellished panels featuring birds, a new Bookwraps tutorial and a stitched stories book.
Here's the back cover of my book "The lonely Princess'

I have had such fun stitching away, trying to illustrate my words and mending myself in the process.

Fairy shoes and Book wraps.

Last week I went to the Embroiderers Guild AGM in Cambridgeshire.
One of the group who took my workshop, the lovely Gina Ferrari sent me this picture of the little Fairy Shoes she made.

Aren't they delightful!
I enjoyed my time at Wyboston Lakes, good food, comfy room and the chance to meet and chat with fellow guild members.
I didn't enjoy the dreadful smog of pollution which hung over this part of the world for days. It caused much suffering for people with chest problems and those, like myself , with asthma.
The world outside looks so different now, clear skies and clean air!
This morning I walked with my dog ,down to the river and spring really was bursting out all over . . . at last!
Last year I had a great time teaching in Scotland and today, I was thrilled to get a message from one of the members of the Aberdeen South branch of the guild with these lovely pictures of her work. Thank you so much Linda.

Linda entered one of the Bookwraps she had made into a competition and she won!
I think her success was well deserved.

Wrekin Embroiderers Guild

I have just returned from Shropshire, where I spent two action packed days with the Wrekin branch of the Embroiderers Guild.
Ha! What fun I had!
I was looked after so well, thank you so much ladies.
Below are some of the pictures I took of members work. We were making Embellished Books and I was wowed by the inventiveness and skill of this very friendly bunch!
My sincere apologies for not including all the book covers, I haven't mastered quick photography with my iPhone and some of the pictures I took were very out of focus . . .sorry.
Anyway, please feast your eyes on these lovely works of art!

Hidden corners

I had a lovely wander around the hidden corners of Alcester, a most interesting small town in Warwickshire, not far from Stratford upon Avon.

It's one of the few towns around here that still has a variety of individual shops, including a craft shop, a really good knitting/fabric shop and a vintage treasure shop.

It was late afternoon and the sun was being savoured by everyone including the tiger in the last picture.
I love these crooked little houses and spent a while deciding which one ,would one day be mine!

Pershore Embroiderers

On Saturday I had the pleasure of teaching a workshop for Pershore Embroiderers, a really lovely group.
We met at Defford Village hall, a new purpose built, Eco building.
Here's the view we had on a rare, sunny day.

We spent a happy day making sure the local pixies were well shod.

I was really pleased with the results and I'd like to thank P.E. for making me so welcome! See you all again soon.

'Finding the Magic' at Wyboston Lakes

The 2014 Embroiderers guild AGM will be held at Wyboston Lakes in Cambridgeshire, and I've been asked to come along and give a talk.
Scary stuff, this is a huge event . . . but I'm honoured to be invited!

I've called my talk 'Finding the Magic', and I've spent the last few weeks planning samples, sorting stories and adventures, going off in the wrong direction, coming back and re-writing etc etc.
It's much too long so I shall have to trim it down. Now this is going to be hard!

Anyway, it's been great fun and here's a taste of what's included.

Last year we went to Devon, in search of Hares. They appear in the most unexpected places. . . .

This symbol, three hares running in a circle , has ancient origins and can be seen all over the world.
This one is hiding , high in the roof of the pretty church of St.Michael at Ilsington , a charming village on the edge of Dartmoor in Devon.
If you should decide to go on a 'Hare hunt' like mine, do take a torch, church lighting doesn't reach into the nooks and crannies where hares hide!

I've drawn the symbol from Ilsington onto calico and coloured the hares with Inktense crayons.
Not sure what next. Maybe some hand stitch?
